The annual Thursday Crew thank-you banquet was held in November 2009. Seventeen of the crew and their family members attended for a time of fellowship and feasting. Rev. Judy Allbee (ABCCONN Executive Minister), Rev. Hopeton Scott (Camping Department Chair) along with Karen and David Warfield led a litany of dedication celebrating the work accomplished over the last year.
The Thursday Crew is always welcoming new members.

The Department of Camping and Conferences is continuing to work with Charlie Liegus, a certified state forester, to implement a 20 year forestry plan. This spring we will be marking a number of trees that will be eligible to harvest in 10 years and another in 20 years. As this marking takes place, some trees that are currently ready to harvest will be selectively and carefully removed. There are a couple of goals in this forestry plan: (1) Ensure new growth and preservation of the forest and (2) Generate a revenue stream that can be used in maintenance projects as designated by the Camping Department.

Are you being called to be a part of the summer camp staff?
Would you like to be involved with the important and life changing ministry of Camp Wightman?.
Here are two ways to serve ...
Paid Staff - 9 Week Positions
Camp Wightman is how hiring for summer 2010 staff positions. These nine-week long positions include a modest salary, room and board.
The summer staff position requires a lot of hard work, long hours, a lot of fun, the experience of living in a Christian community and opportunities to learn, grow and serve.
If you are over 18 years of age or older and would like more information, you can check the Summer Staff section on the camp website or call Karen or David Warfield in the Camp Office. Available positions and application information are posted on the website.

Volunteer Staff - Weekly Positions
Ever wonder what it takes to become a summer volunteer staff? Ever think about being an important part of change in a camper’s life? Ever have a life changing experience as a child and been looking for that “way” to give back? Are you able to give a week (or more) to make a difference in a child’s life? Someone’s life?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then Camp Wightman needs you! Volunteering is easy and is one of the most rewarding experiences that you will have in your life.
Volunteers must be committed Christians and be able to pass a background check. Volunteer applications are available on the Camp website. Questions will be happily answered by Karen or David Warfield in the Camp Office.

Recently, while going through a stack of old photos, the following ‘caption’ was found loose in the storage box.
“A pair of false legs fooled some of us into thinking here was a lost camper. This famous bell, which announces meal time, now as a new yoke. This is a favorite spot to gather for camp pictures.”
Obviously, at one time this was attached to a picture of the bell. But who can tell us of the story with the pair of false legs.
Please send your explanations to camp … and we’ll publish “the rest of the story” in another newsletter. |
