Camp Song
Why Camp?

(Tune, The Ash Grove, Welsh Folk Song)

Apart from loud cities and out in the wildwood
There is a blessed campsite so dear to our hearts,
Where campers and leaders are joined in the Christ-hood
By actions to worship the God of their hearts.
Up out of the water, Infinity towers And, leaving the finite, it looks toward the sky.
Across the clear waters, in white laurel bowers
The chapel is linked by a spiritual tie.

Fond memories golden the Council Ring harbors
Where campfires did brighten the night with their flame.
And singing did lighten our hearts with such glad strains
While friendships, long-lasting, cemented became.
We through woods go hiking on trails intertwining
And we are touched by the sorrowful thought--
We soon must be leaving--those trails are reminding
That tho' our paths differ, they'll be severed not.

The nature around us of God to us speaking
Does show us God's way and God's purpose for us.
So finding our mission--no longer we're seeking--
We know God's example; we follow God's plan.
So onward we'll travel but always remember
The lessons we learned there, wherever we roam;
'Til under its arbors again we are gathered,
Camp Wightman, Camp Wightman, our dear summer home.
