The American Baptist Churches of Connecticut is very pleased to welcome Karen and David Warfield as the new Ministers of Camping and Conferences. The Executive Committee voted unanimously on Feb. 3 to call them to this position. They will begin their duties on Feb. 20, 2009.

The search committee included Past President Bill Smith, President Joyce Blandon, Vice President Joe Delahunt and Peter Young from the Personnel Committee and Ozzie Picard, Michelle Madsen Bibeau, Hopeton Scott and Tim Bates representing camping. Following a thorough national search, the committee was excited to find the Warfields right in our front yard.

David and Karen Warfield are active members of Central Baptist Church in Norwich where David serves as the Director of Music and Karen is the Director of Worship Arts. They have been serving at Camp Wightman since September 2008 as Retreat Hosts. Active in the ABCCONN community, both have been involved with the planning committee for the Annual Gathering and both have led workshops at the Discipleship Fair, Spring Fling and the Annual Gathering.

David retired from the Department of Homeland Security three years ago after serving more than 30 years with the US Government. Karen formerly worked for the US Department of Defense and later worked with the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut.

Karen and David bring a wealth of experience to this position. They both have excellent administrative, management and marketing skills which the search committee believes will bring the camp to the next level in this 21st century.

News:

May 13, 2009 - Camp Wightman welcomes to the ABCCONN family Michelle Parker of Rochester New Hampshire to the position of Food Service Director.  Michelle is a graduate of the New England Culinary Institute and is currently the manager for the Portsmouth (NH) Middle School Nutrition Program. Her experience includes cooking at a Boy Scout Camp in NH where she prepared meals for 650 - 700 (hungry) scouts for the summer season.  Welcome Michelle.

May 11, 2009 - The staff and families of Camp Wightman and ABCCONN give thanks for the culinary talents of Kit Peltier-Sharp. Kit completed her service at Camp Wightman on Friday and we thank her on behalf of the thousands of people that have enjoyed her talents.  We ask you to keep the Camp in your prayers as we journey through a transition in Food Service.

February 4, 2009 - New Directors David and Karen Warfield were called to serve at Camp Wightman.

February 1, 2009 - Online registration has begun.  Online registration is available here.

January, 2009 - Camp brochures are being mailed out.  Online registration will begin on February 1st, 2009.

August 29, 2008 - David and Karen Warfield will be taking over retreat operations for Camp Wightman on an interim basis, effective September 1st, leaving Kevin Butler free to focus on developing materials for the summer of 2009. Retreat-related inquiries can be directed to David and Karen through e-mail: retreats@abcconn.org.
